Nagpur :- Army Day is observed annually on January 15 to commemorate the Indian Army’s complete military independence from British rule, marked by the appointment of Field Marshal KM Kariappa as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief in 1949. Leading up to the celebrations, a series of events were organized under the aegis of Headquarters Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area. These included an inter-school quiz competition led by renowned quiz master Col V Shankar, SC (Retd), at Army Public School, Kamptee, an interaction session between Maj Gen NS Sohal, GOC of Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area, and veterans at Sitabuldi Fort and blood donation camps at MH Kamptee and MH Vadodara. Additionally, sporting activities such as a walkathon for families and children were held at Nagpur and Kamptee Military Stations.
These events instilled patriotic fervour and pride in the Indian Army among all participants.
