1. The National Academy of Defence Production (NADP) today hosted the launch of the transformative “GEM SDG Series of 17 Books”—a pioneering literary initiative dedicated to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Organized in collaboration with SAMVAW Foundation and Books33, the event marked a significant milestone in India’s journey toward sustainability education.

The GEM SDG Series is a unique collection of intergenerational storybooks designed for children aged 6–10 years, blending Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), Mission LiFE, and global sustainability principles. Through relatable narratives and vibrant illustrations, these books aim to instill eco-conscious habits, problem-solving skills, and cultural values early in life, preparing children to become gentle guardians of Grandma Earth.
3. The event was graced by eminent personalities from the fields of science, literature, and social development. Chief Guest, Dr. S. Venkata Mohan, Director of NEERI (National Environmental Engineering Research Institute). He emphasized: “Sustainability is not an option—it is a necessity. Initiatives like the GEM SDG Series bridge the gap between awareness and action, empowering young minds to lead the change we urgently need.”![]()
4. Prof (Dr.) Shalini Verma, representing the SAMVAW Foundation, provided deep insights into the foundation’s mission and its strategic collaboration on the GEM SDG Series. Dr. Verma highlighted how the GEM series serves as a powerful tool to empower individuals, particularly children, to take accountable actions for societal and environmental betterment, aligning with a global movement for sustainable value creation.
5. Katie Bagli, the author, shared her profound views on the need for accessible environmental education for young minds. Ms. Bagli acknowledged that the collective effort made her personal commitment to the cause of environmental storytelling successful, hoping the books will inspire a new generation of planet protectors.
6. Dr. J.P. Dash, Principal Director, NADP, remarked: “Children are the torchbearers of tomorrow. Teaching them the essence of SDGs through stories ensures that sustainability becomes a way of life.”
7. N Raghuraman, Consultant NADP shared how NADP is helping the SAMVAW foundation to convert the books into videos, incorporating some of the classroom activities and stories from ancient scriptures so that it can reach every nook and corner of Indi. NADP also showcased video adaptations of the stories, expanding their reach through digital platforms. NADP is now able to reach out to this children’s audience to change their outlook for a better tomorrow. 8. The GEM SDG Series is a call to action. By integrating storytelling with eco-friendly practices, tree-planting initiatives, and school-based Eco-Clubs, this movement seeks to transform reading into measurable climate action. It is going to deepen the movement towards sustainability by including the children, who have the highest stake in future of the earth.
