Jichkar brothers booked for grabbing road, NMC land at Futala Lak

Nagpur :- In a major action taken after 13 years, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has finally registered an FIR against contractors and builders Narendra Purushottam Jichkar and Mahendra Purushottam Jichkar for allegedly encroaching upon a public road and land owned by NMC at Futala Lake.

The FIR was registered by Ambazari Police based on a complaint filed by NMC. Narendra Jichkar — who earlier sparked widespread outrage for illegal demolition of Ambedkar Smarak inside Ambazari Garden — has once again found himself in serious legal trouble, this time along with his younger brother.

Ambazari Police have booked the duo under Section 329 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(5) of BNS, holding them responsible for unlawful encroachment on public properties.

Narendra Jichkar, Chief Convenor of Bahujan Vichar Manch, was caught several times distributing kirana kits during 2024 Assembly Elections, during which he contested as an Independent. He was expelled from Congress for anti-party activities. He also faces a previous criminal case for demolition of Ambedkar Smarak in Ambazari Garden.

The Case at a Glance:

Narendra Jichkar, a contractor for Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), has been operating Road Jetpatcher for last 12 years.

His family owns a 600 sq. mt. plot on South side of Futala Lake.

Adjacent to his land, there is a 1,100 sq. mt. plot owned by NMC.

Twelve years ago, he encroached upon NMC’s land for industrial purposes and constructed a compound wall.

He has been illegally mixing cold tar, storing materials, and parking jetpatchers on NMC-owned land.

Despite being aware of the encroachment, officials from NMC Dharampeth Zone, failed to take any action.

On 18-09-2014, NMC Dharampeth Zone officially took possession of 1,100 sq. mt. plot.

However, the encroachment was not removed due to collusion between NMC officials and Jichkar.

In 2022, State Government sanctioned Rs 40 lakh for constructing an Adivasi Bhavan on this land.

NMC issued a tender in March 2022 and awarded the work order to a private company.

Despite bhoomipujan (groundbreaking ceremony) being held three years ago, NMC is yet to take possession of the land and start the project.

On 17-12-2024, Hon’ble Supreme Court has observed no need for notice for demolition of illegal constructions on road in Civil Appeal No. 14604/2024 Still, NMC done nothing in last 13 years

Finally, NMC registered FIR against Jichkar Brothers on 08-11-2025
