Nagpur :- For the citizens of Vidarbha, who are troubled by rising electricity prices, the ‘Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana’ has proven to be a revolution. This scheme not only provides freedom from electricity bills but also gives every household an opportunity to stand on its own feet and become self-reliant in terms of energy. So far, 1,14,978 families in Vidarbha have participated in this scheme and installed solar panels on the rooftops of their houses, generating a massive 442.7 MW of power generation capacity. This statistic clearly shows that Vidarbha has embraced the energy revolution and is progressing rapidly.
You might think that the cost of installing solar panels is high. But thanks to the substantial subsidies provided by the Central Government, this cost has come down significantly. A subsidy of up to Rs 30,000 for a one-kilowatt project, Rs 60,000 for a two-kilowatt project, and Rs 78,000 for a three-kilowatt project is directly credited to your bank account. This makes the initial cost manageable. The objective of this scheme is clear: every family should get up to 300 units of free electricity per month. This means that by investing just once, you can get rid of electricity bills for life. What’s more, if your house generates more electricity than needed, you can sell that surplus electricity to Mahavitaran and earn a good income. This is a double benefit of both saving and earning at the same time.
The response received by this scheme in Vidarbha is very encouraging. Out of the 2,89,172 customers who have participated in this scheme across Maharashtra so far, a whopping 1,14,978 customers from Vidarbha alone have adopted it. Nagpur district is at the forefront, with solar panels installed on 44,268 houses. This is followed by Amravati (17,067), Buldhana (8,849), Wardha (8,621), Akola (8,339), Chandrapur (7,436), Yavatmal (7,012), Bhandara (4,844), Washim (3,584), Gondia (3,404), and Gadchiroli (1,554) districts, which have also responded well to this scheme. In addition, 42,100 solar panels in Vidarbha are ready for power generation, while work on installing solar panels on 70 houses is in progress.
