Nagpur :-On the culmination day of the 1965 War (23 September). Headquarters Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area paid obeisance to all warriors of 1965 and paid tribute to all brave hearts in a grand befitting ceremony. On this occasion, Officers & Troops of the Sub Area, a large number of Retired Officers, former soldiers and citizens of Nagpur gathered at Shaheed Major Surendra Deo Park located in Dhantoli, Nagpur.
This park is dedicated to Shaheed Major Surendra Deo who attained martyrdom in the war with Pakistan in Sialkot sector on 16 September 1965, in the 1965 Indo-Pak War. His last rites were performed on 17 September 1965 in the battlefield itself. In his honor, this park was named Major Surendra Deo Memorial Park.
In this grand befitting ceremony, a wreath on behalf of Major General SK Vidyarthi, AVSM, SM, GOC Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area was laid and then Major General Ajit Gadre, VSM (Retd) offered his tribute’s. The last wreath was laid by Mrs Anuradha Deo, the wife of Shaheed Major Surendra Deo. Colonel Date (Retd) explained the reasons for the 1965 war and the valour of the Indian Army in the war. He dilated on the military life of Major Surendra Dev and extolled about his indomitable courage, true devotion to duty and the supreme sacrifice.
On this occasion, all the veteran officers and former soldiers paid tribute to this brave and extraordinary fighter of the 1965 war and other Brave Hearts by offering wreath and flowers.
