Nagpur :- Central India Nursing College, Lonara, Nagpur, observed the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, celebrated across the country as National Unity Day, and paid tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary on 31 October 2026. The programme was organised by the Nursing faculty and students to remember the lives, leadership and contributions of two prominent figures in India’s history.
The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of national unity, integrity, dedication and responsible citizenship. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as the Iron Man of India, played a significant role in the integration of princely states after Independence. His efforts helped strengthen the unity and territorial integrity of the country. National Unity Day is observed on his birth anniversary to recognise his contribution and to remind citizens of the importance of standing together as one nation.
The gathering also remembered Indira Gandhi, India’s first woman Prime Minister, for her role in the country’s political and public life. Her tenure was associated with several important national developments and challenges. Remembering her on her death anniversary offered an occasion to reflect on her leadership and the impact of her contribution to the nation.
On this occasion, Charlotte Paul, Principal of Central India Nursing College, addressed the gathering and highlighted Sardar Patel’s role in national integration and Indira Gandhi’s contribution to the nation. She encouraged students to learn from the values of commitment, leadership, courage and service reflected in the lives of these leaders. She also emphasised that unity, integrity, discipline and patriotism are essential values for every citizen.
The programme helped students understand the importance of remembering national leaders and their contributions to the development of India. As future nursing professionals, students were encouraged to carry these values into their personal and professional lives by serving society with responsibility, dedication, compassion and a spirit of unity.
The programme concluded with faculty members and students paying heartfelt tributes to both leaders and reaffirming their commitment to the ideals of national unity, integrity and service to the nation.
