LAUNCHING OF 1st SEGMENT IN REACH-3A SECTION

 

Nagpur 23 : The works of Reach-3A section (i.e., from Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna of length 6.4 Kms) of Nagpur Metro Rail Project (Phase-II) commenced in January 2025. This section is planned to enhance connectivity between YCCE College, the School of Scholars, Shalini Tai Meghe Hospital and Research Centre, Hingna Bus Stop, Hingna Rural Hospital, and
the areas of Pardi, Butibori, Kanhan, as well as other parts of Nagpur city.

Reach-3A section comprises of 230 spans which includes one special span of 120 meter over Veena River in Hingna. Civil works in the section are planned to be completed in 24 months.

Maha-Metro appointed agency M/s KALPATARU PROJECTS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED has commenced segments lifting work in Reach-3A section. This milestone involves the careful lifting and placement of precast concrete segments to construct the viaduct structure.

The first span measures 31 meters and is launched utilizing a Ground Supported Launching system. A total of 180 cubic meters of M50 grade concrete and 28.5 tons of Fe550D steel have been utilized in the construction of the 31-meter span.

The launching of the said girder took place in the presence of Maha Metro Managing Director, Sh. Shravan Hardikar. On this occasion, Director (Projects) Sh. Rajeev Tyagi, Executive Director Sh. Arun Kumar, Sh. Rajesh Patil and other officials were also present.

11 nos. of individual segments are combined to create the 31-meter span. The width of the end segment is 1.9 meters, while the remaining segments measure 3 meters in width. The weight of each segment ranges from 40 tons to 45 ton.

Each segment is transported from the casting yard to the site using a trailer along a predetermined route. A patrolling vehicle and Traffic Marshals escort the trailer to mitigate any risks to road users.

Crane of 250 ton capacity is used to lift individual segment. The lifting is being conducted With strict adherence to safety protocols, including a comprehensive lifting plan, risk assessment, and the use of certified equipment and personnel. Safety is paramount throughout this process.

To complete one span using the Ground Supporting System, which encompasses the lifting of all segments, dry matching, alignment, gluing, post-tensioning, and span lowering, it will take 7 days.
