The incident happened at the Barasignal Borkar Nagar during the Disconnection Drive

Nagpur :- It has been observed that nearly 165 consumers of Barasignal Borkar Nagar in the Fort-2 Command area of Gandhibagh Zone have been drawing water through illegal household connections for several years.

On 12th September 2025, OCW disconnected the illegal connections and initiated works to charge the metered pipeline connections by carrying out interconnection works in the excavated pit. During the execution, some people from the Sweeper Colony abused and threatened OCW officials and contractual workers, forcibly stopping the work in its half-done condition. The workers and staff were released only upon the intervention of the local police. Consequently, the entire area was left without a water supply.

On 13th September 2025 (Saturday), after discussions with NMC officials and upon assurances from certain local representatives and Ex-Corporator, OCW once again attempted to complete the pending interconnection works to restore supply through legal metered connections. However, immediately after commencement, the same group gathered and threatened the OCW staff to restore the illegal connections. Despite the presence of law enforcement agencies and under pressure from local political leaders, coupled with threats to the lives of OCW staff, the illegal water connections were forcibly re-established.

As of the time of this report, the reconnection of old illegal supply lines is in progress, carried out under duress in the presence of police and local influences, making it impossible for OCW to resume water supply through the intended legal metered pipeline.

For more information about water supply, consumers can contact NMC-OCW Helpline No 1800 266 9899 or email contact@ocwindia.com.
