Nagpur :- A stray dog suffering from a massive tumor on the lateroventral aspect of the right side of its chest underwent successful surgery at the Bhandewadi Dog Shelter.
The tumor, weighing approximately 3.5 kilograms, was surgically removed by Dr. Sunny Magar and his dedicated veterinary team. The dog had been captured and brought to the shelter by the dog-catching team of the Dharampeth Zone of NMC, after receiving complaints about the animal’s deteriorating condition.
The surgery was conducted with utmost precision, and the dog is now under careful post-operative monitoring at the shelter. Veterinary staff have confirmed that the animal is responding positively to treatment and is on the road to recovery.

Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant, and under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Bhagat and Chief Sanitation Officer, dr gajendra mahalle treatment is being provided to stray dogs at the Animal Shelter Centre in Bhandewadi. A team of expert veterinarians is actively working at the site.
A large number of stray dogs are brought to the Bhandewadi Dog Shelter every month, many of them in extremely critical condition. These include dogs injured in automobile accidents, often suffering from multiple fractures, as well as those affected by venereal granuloma, paralysis, severe debility, and complications associated with old age.
The shelter not only provides a safe refuge for such animals but also ensures timely veterinary treatment and rehabilitation.
During the rainy season and immediately after the monsoon, a large number of stray dogs are brought to the Bhandewadi Dog Shelter suffering from maggot-infested wounds. These are often deep, large, and severely infected injuries caused by fly larvae infestation, which can lead to intense pain, tissue damage, and life-threatening sepsis if left untreated.
