Mumbai :- Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma launched an ambitious expansion of the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ pledging to take the campaign into every slum cluster of Mumbai on Friday (1 May).
The initiative was launched at Lok Bhavan on the occasion of Maharashtra Day where the Governor, joined by other dignitaries, released a poster themed ‘TB Free India – A Lok Bhavan Maharashtra Initiative’.
Providing further insight into the initiative, Secretary to the Governor Dr. Prashant Narnaware highlighted that the campaign aligns with the national call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to eliminate tuberculosis from the country. He noted that focusing on densely populated and vulnerable slum areas of Mumbai is both a strategic and humanitarian priority, as these communities often face heightened health risks due to limited access to healthcare, awareness, and sanitation.
By targeting Mumbai’s slums, the initiative aims not only to accelerate early detection and treatment of tuberculosis but also to strengthen community awareness, nutrition support, and public health outreach.
