‘African Safari’ to be Experienced Soon at Nagpur’s Gorewada Zoo.

In the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Forest Minister Ganesh Naik MoU signed between FDCM Gorewada Zoo Limited and NBCC

Mumbai, 2 – The Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoo in Nagpur will soon offer an ‘African Safari’ experience. An MoU was signed today between FDCM Gorewada Zoo Limited and National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC-India) in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Forest Minister Ganesh Naik for the development of this African Safari.

The signing ceremony took place in the committee hall at the Vidhan Bhavan, where NBCC Chairman and Managing Director K.P.M. Swamy, Executive Director Pravin Doifode, Managing Director of Maharashtra Forest Development Corporation Naresh Zurmure, and CEO of FDCM Gorewada Zoo Limited Chandrasekharan Bala signed the agreement. Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest Department Milind Mhaiskar and Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge were also present.
The initiative to launch the African Safari was directed by Chief Minister Fadnavis. Accordingly, the safari and an entrance plaza will be developed.

Under this project, around 63 hectares of land within the Gorewada Zoo will be developed into an African Safari, featuring approximately 22 African species. Additionally, the entry plaza will also be constructed. The project is estimated to cost ₹285 crore, with a target of completing it within 18 months. Once completed, the African Safari is expected to make Nagpur a major wildlife tourism destination, while also promoting environmental awareness and biodiversity conservation.

Project Background:
The Indian Safari section at the zoo has already been completed and was inaugurated on January 26, 2021.
The African Safari is now being developed as part of the second phase.
Construction will be carried out by NBCC, a nationally recognized agency.
